Person was created by a comma in an obituary. How do I delete this nonperson?
A person was created because of a comma in an obituary. Because of relationships and names, it’s been tricky to sort out what happened. How do I request that this nonperson be removed from the tree? Identifying and linking this nonperson shows up as a task for me.

Can you merge them into an existing person?

This is not a matter FamilySearch personnel would deal with. As Mandy suggests, either merge the ID that has been created (in error) with that of the individual to whom it is meant to refer - or, alternatively, you can detach their relationship with the parents to whom they have been attached on the tree. Either way, add a reason statement for your action (e.g., "Profile created in error through faulty indexing"), so this shows in the change log of the merged / detached profile.

There's one technically-possible solution that hasn't been mentioned yet, namely, the one in the "why can't I delete?" message: "use Get Help and Contact Us to have the data removed." I don't actually recommend that, because it's totally unnecessary: as both Mandy and Paul said, the best and easiest solution is simply merging the profile into the profile of the person that the obituary actually mentions. To do that, copy the ID of the nonperson, go to the profile Details page of the real person, and use Merge by ID (in the Tools box at the bottom of the right-hand column).
Of course, merge-deleting the Family Tree profile will still leave the mess in the index entries; the simplest solution to that is to attach both "fragments" to the real person's profile, with suitable notes in the reason boxes.
