I have read the guidelines and know what to do about partial names, fields, entire records, and entire images being unreadable, but I don't know what to do when large sections of the image are unreadable and I can't tell how many records I can't read. Do I guess and mark each of the next 25 records "Unreadable" or do I just skip to the next readable one and continue?

Throw the batch back for reindexing.

Someone has to do it, it might as well be me 😊

The PI literally says to throw it back.

Records in this project are often damaged or otherwise difficult to read. If you download a batch that you are uncomfortable indexing, simply return it for someone else to index, and download a new project. Do not mark such images as "No, No Extractable Data."

How can I learn if I don't ask what I don't understand? If someone else can do it, then I can learn too. I'm not uncomfortable with it, I just want to make sure. I am under the impression that that is the purpose of this forum, to clear up questions and help indexers improve their knowledge and abilities. I've seen some of your responses on this forum and I know you don't have a lot of patience with many of the questioners here. I appreciate you taking time to answer, and I seriously considered what you have to say, but I would like to see if anyone else has a different suggestion that directly answers my question.

@LauraGaskins It would be extremely helpful if you hold the batch and provide the batch code of the one you're having trouble with. The batch code is found in brackets to the right of the project name, it looks like this [ XXXX-x1x]. This helps the person answering to see exactly what you mean by the word "unreadable." I'm simply an old-lady volunteer and mean no criticism of your comments, but a forum like this requires lots of patience and cooperation from everyone. Have a great day. 😎

Yes, of course! I didn't mean to sound cranky before. Here it is: MQKW-LMD. I have made it through the first page, but on the second page, in the first column I can't even see where the entries are for a large section.

Hi @LauraGaskins Thank you now I see exactly what you mean😎 I tried enlarging the type, Brightness and Contrast. Didn't help much then I tried Inverting so I could see White on Black; that gave me a few more. In this case, I would index what you can see, skip to the next one you can see and delete any extra preset entries. Don't bother counting those you can't see. BTW I haven't tried any directories lately because of the sheer volume of entries and the unreadable problems. I think the cause is probably camera or lighting related and needs answers/attention from FS powers that be 😊 Best wishes, Mary
