Finding Stato delle Anime 1845 Borgonovo (di Mezzanego)
Hi, I have been trying to find on FamilySearch the parish records for St Maria della Neve, in particular the 1845 parish census. I believe there were also other census dates which I have seen but can no longer find and I would be most grateful if I can be directed accordingly
The screen clip shows the citation specifically
Thank you

To clarify, you found that clip in the Family Search records previously? But you don't know where you found it? In the catalog, I do not see something that seems to be parish records of Santa Maria della Neve, Mezzanego, Genova. But the catalog is not up to date, so it would be helpful to know where you found the clip.

Hi David, To answer your specific question. I have the clip / record from a fellow researcher of the Curotto family, originally obtained from the church or diocese
I thought I had found the series on family search a couple of weeks ago following a family search consultation using the "image" search as per my last reply but I can no longer find it and I am not 100% certain
I have been searching Mezzanego, Borzonego, Lavaggi, Boronzasca, Chiavari, Genova, Caregli, Montemoggio, San Colombano, la Spezia and Liguria - all with connections - without success
Thank you

Hi David,
I searched "images" for Mezzanego, St Maria delle Neve; it asks just search Mezzanego; it then asks just search Genova; then I put 1845 and I get 48 results of which 3 mention "religious parish census", all #004272936:
- item 9 of 11 Careglia 1679 - 1901, 113 images
- item 10 of 11 Careglia 1819 - 1901, 136 images, and
- item 11 of 11 Careglia 1679 - 1901, 74 images
If I view item 10 and click on "view image group" then 136 images becomes 960 images with item 10 starting at image 751 (as you would expect as part of #004272936?
…. browsing through the 960 images I can no longer find the 1845 census
I believe there is also a 1866 and a 1885 Borzonego parish census
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Thank you

In my experience, the so-called cataloging data in the Images section of FamilySearch is, uh, more often completely wrong than even remotely right.
FS's Catalog is now rather stale, having not been updated in three years, but it's still much more likely to be correct. According to it, film 4272936 contains records from Caregli, a parish in the diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio; the film includes some marriage records that cover 1845, in item 8 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6QD7-ZSH?i=571&cat=990148), and a Stati delle Anime from the 1700s, in item 11 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6QD7-CRZ?i=887&cat=990148). I suspect that the Images section was offering it as a match to your search criteria based on those two items.
From what I can tell from the Catalog, either FS doesn't have any church records from Mezzanego, or they have not been cataloged in a way that the new (disimproved) search algorithm can find (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&query=%2Bkeywords%3AMezzanego).

Thank you very much Julia, I made a couple of further steps:
Marriages at St Vincenzo and Anestasio, Caregli, Borzonasca 1811-1837, 1055 images #004272937
Stato di famiglice 1866 S. Lorenzo, Lavaggi
Stato di famiglia, Mezzanego 1940 death record 1883 at Neve
Death records S. Lorenzo, Lavaggi 1805 - 1837
Images of Archivio Stato di La Spezia (following one of your links) which I have to view only at a familysearch centre
In terms of asking a archive, church or diocese (Archivio in Pammatone / San Martino archives, PARROCCHIA S. MARIA ASSUNTA, S. Maria Della Neve, Borgonovo, Diocese Chiavari ) in your experience are such requests answered where possible, ignored or available through a paid physical search of the records?
Thank you very much

Unfortunately, I have zero experience with Italian archives, so I can't answer your question about their responsiveness or the availability of the records elsewhere. (The extent of my Italian research experience is some digging into the life and family of the Hungarian patriot Lajos Kossuth, who died in exile in Turin in 1894. I was not able to locate any Italian records for him.)
I'm going back to the beginning of the thread; the citation-like-thing at the bottom of the linked image reads: Stato delle Anime (parish census) (1845), 32-33, Parrochia Sta. Maria della Neve, Borgonovo (Mezzanego) (GE), Italy. I translate that as: Parish census from 1845, pages (or lines?) 32-33, parish church of St. Mary of the Snows, community of Borgonovo in the municipality of Mezzanego, province of Genova, Italy. One thing I noticed in all the jumble of unfamiliar Italian: the name of the church is mixed in with the placenames, and the ecclesiastic versus secular jurisdictions are also confusing. (It doesn't do any good to find material from a church dedicated to "St. Mary of the snows" if it's in Bologna or Sicily rather than in a specific community near Genoa. FS's Places tool has over 3000 matches to "Santa Maria della Neve"; the Catalog really only has five, or ten if you allow for other designations of Mary.)
I think you may have better luck asking in the Italy Research group. People there may know about other websites with Italian material.
