Brick wall - very few records for Christopher (Conrad Christophe?) Diestel
What is the next best way to go about finding someone who has left hardly any records? Immigrated from Germany (1860 US census, age 20 in NY), same surname as family on census but not in that immediate family. He is also on 1863 NY Civil War registration. He is my 2nd great-grandfather and cannot find US marriage or death records, nor ship passenger or naturalization records.
Found one naturalization for C C Diestel but the age is too old to be him. Could be relative?? Father??

I would suggest that you post in one of the relevant research groups where people with an interest in the area can be of more help. Atlantic States for New York or Germany Research may be good places to start.
Any additional information you can contribute would be useful. In that era, we're more likely to find church records rather than civil registration of marriage. If you know his religion, that might be helpful. And - since you know he had a wife and children, sharing more names would be useful. Also, New York has some peculiarities, so knowing WHERE in New York is important. NYC records are held separately from the rest of the state of New York.
Best of luck with the search!

Oh - and IF that naturalization is for his father, you likely won't find one for him. Minors received derivative citizenship from the naturalization of the father.
