Engaging the Youth and Memories
Hi! I am Elder Galloway, I am a Service Missionary and part of the Ninja FamilySearch team. Two of my team assignments are: Engaging Youth in Family History and Memories. My wife Linda and I were recently asked to help our Ward Youth to get ready and excited about going to the Spokane Temple to do baptisms for their ancestors. Both Linda and I got very excited about this assignment. Her and I put together a Power Point to aid in getting the youth excited about learning more about their ancestors and taking their names to the temple.
I am going to reshare the presentation Linda and I did for the youth of our Ward two weeks before their Temple trip to the Spokane Temple. Besides putting together the Power Point, we decided that my coming to the Young Men's and Young Women's activity dressed in one of my Scottish kilts. Needless to say, it definitely started them talking, even before the presentation. After the presentation, we broke away into separate groups. We help the Young Men and Young Women use Ordinance Ready to find their ancestors that have temple work ready to be done. We had approximately 40 youth at the activity and most of them found around 8 - 10 ancestors who needed Baptisms and Confirmations that needed to be done. After the presentation, the youth were very excited about doing Baptisms for their ancestors. We estimated that they would carry between 120 and 160 names to the temple. I under estimated how excited they were. I found out in church today that they carried 520 names of their relatives to the temple with them last week. I'm jazzed as I'm sure their ancestors are!!!
I am including a photo of me in my kilt and a link to the presentation that we gave.
This is the link to our Power Point presentation.
