How do I edit this Place Name in the 1940 U.S Census?
Record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KFJ4-V32
I want to correct the Census Event Place. It says Camuy, but it should say Hatillo.
When I click Edit it looks like it's already corrected, so there's nothing for me to correct, but when I go to attach it to person in the tree the incorrect data shows up. I know I can just attach it and then correct it in the FamilyTree, but I see this a lot, and I'd like to know how to correct it in the index.
This is what I see after clicking Edit. The correct Place Name shows up here.
When I attach the record, the incorrect place name (Camuy) shows up.
How can I correct the index, so that the correct place name shows up when I attach the record to a person in the tree?
regards,
Craig

@Craig Petty What you are seeing occurs because FamilySearch keeps all versions of edited data. Unfortunately, it does not give you choices in the source linker as to what version of the edited data can be pulled over when attaching a source.
Fortunately, the source linker does allow you to edit the place. Click Add in the source linker. Then, edit the place so that it read correctly before you click Attach.

@N Tychonievich Since the word (original) no longer appears, it's not always easy to tell, but this would appear to be another instance of our least-favorite algorithm. Please and thanks.

I agree. That’s unfortunate. Thank you for the explanation.
