indexing is creating duplication of people

I understand there is a group researching ex-slaves and their families. I am VERY frustrated as I have tied people together to find: ie James Smith and Mary Smith and their children on say the 1880 census, each given an Id number. The 1900 census the same people with new Id numbers. The 1910 census the same people with new Id number. etc, A draft record for James with a New Id number. death record for James a new Id number. etc, etc.

I have spent hours combining all the duplicates and am seeing temple work that is also duplicated. I am really frustrated at the additional work I have to go thru. If your people REALLY want to help--tie these people together.

With the access to computers, why are you even doing extractions?? I see no value when it results in so much duplication.

Unfortunately if there isn't enough information people will be duplicated on census records. If you find duplicate records even with temple work completed please merge them.
