I just created a person in error since I couldn't see her in my tree altho I thought I'd already created her & others & later I saw her in another screen & she was already there & now it won't let me merge to correct saying they're in two different family groups. What does that even mean? THIS IS VERY CONFUSING!!! Why can't I now see some living people? PLEASE EXPLAIN!!!

I'm a daily user on FamilySearch.org & 25+ year Temple and FamilySearch Consultant so I'm not new to the party & this should be easy for patrons & users to understand.

Have you been trying out the new shared family groups? The error message that you are seeing that says the two profiles are in two different family groups implies that you have.

In the new family group tree we an have several different private spaces. One that only we can use and see living people in and other that we can invite other families member to take part in. In those shared groups, everyone in the group can see the same living people. However, you have to have a different profile and ID in each private group. For example, I might be Gordon AAAA-AAA in my private space and Gordon KKKK-KKK in the space I share with my siblings and Gordon ZZZZ-ZZZ in the space my wife shares with her siblings.

Then when I am in my private space, I can only see AAAA-AAA. When I am in my wife's shared group I can only see ZZZZ-ZZZ. These cannot be merged because they are in separate spaces.

For full descriptions of how this new feature is suppose to work, and will when all the bugs are worked out, see: https://www.familysearch.org/labs and specifically: https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/family-group-tree-pilot/family-group-trees-pilot-help-and-learning

If you look in the second main menu bar on any person's detail page or on a pedigree page, as the very first item, you will see the family group tree you are in. Also in that menu bar you will see a new Person List item. Clicking on that will give you a list of all the living people in that particular private or shared space.

Just to be perfectly clear: If you see the items underlined here in red when you look at the menu bars in the upper left:

then you have turned on the shared family group feature. The two versions of the profiles you have created that you cannot see at the same time and that you cannot merge must be in two different living spaces: your own and a group you have created or joined.

@Terry Ferguson Your post was edited to remove the name and ID of a living individual for privacy reasons. Please see the Code of Conduct for more details.
