Interaction between FamilySearch (private tree) and a Family Group
My sister-in-law, was marked as living in my personal space, however she had died in Feb. 2023. I copied her over to a Family Group tree that I started. I then did a search for her within FamilySearch, upon finding a FindaGrave memorial I attached it to her. By adding the death date she was then marked deceased. At that point I was able to see two other sources (the 1940 and 1950 US census) that someone else had added in 2023. I then left the Family Group and went back to the general FamilySearch tree (my private space) and she was still marked as living and had no sources. So in the general FamilySearch tree I then marked her as deceased by adding her death date. However, there were still no sources attached. Exiting the general FamilySearch tree, I went back to the Family Group and she was now marked as living in the FamilyGroup and had no sources attached.
I do not understand what the relationship is supposed to be between changes made to the general FamilySearch tree and the FamilyGroup with respect to marking a person as deceased and adding sources. Seems like changes and additions made to the General FamilySearch tree should care over to the FamilyGroup? And why did the birth and death dates and sources added to the person in the FamilyGroup disappear when I left the FamilyGroup and then reentered it again?

Once you have copied a living person profile into a family group tree, there is no connection between those two profiles. If you want to keep both your personal copy and the family group tree copy up to date, you have to make any changes twice.
So most of what you described is exactly how it is designed to work. But the exception is this: if you truly successfully saved your changes as you marked the profile in your family group tree as deceased, then when you returned to your family group tree after switching briefly to your personal tree, those changes should still have been in effect. Either you failed to save those changes, or there is some sort of bug.

Thanks, I'm now understanding the aspect about there not being an interconnectiion between the person in the private tree and the Family Group. However, I didn't and still don't see anyway to "Save" changes. I assumed that when made they were automatically saved as is the case in the general FS family tree. Is there some action that needs to be taken to assure that they are "saved", or some action which would cause them to be discarded? If not then there must be a bug, because when I came back nothing I had done, adding of birth, death dates and places and linking of a source was present for that person in my Family Group.

Since you made multiple changes to the person in your group, it's hard for me to believe that those changes weren't saved. Is there any chance you have more than one group tree, and you made your changes in one, but observed the unchanged person in another?

Well, I currently do not find a second tree. I was not aware of doing anything which would have created a second tree, nor anything which would have deleted a second tree had one existed. Mick Mickelson
