RootsTech relationships problem - Family Tree issue!
Hi, with RT starting, FS has been generating the relationships email, and mine showed 20 cousins just last night (4 more today). All but 1 are NOT, in fact, my biological relations. Can anyone tell me how to tag/solve the illegitimacy issue in the Family Tree records to stop these false relationships being created?
My grandfather was born in 1870 (Ernest Edward Cock L1L2-S9L). His mother's husband (Charles Cock MSTX-WP1) died in 1867 making her a widow. She was not married in 1870. So obviously Ernest was illegitimate (more info to support that but too much to add here) but because my Tree shows the marriage between Charles and Esther, and an error "Child born after father's death" pops up, the false relationships are generated even though Ernest's descendants (me included) are NOT related to Charles. I have sent a msg. through the Chat function to 20+ 'false cousins' to tell them the problem. I have also added the 'FACT' to records regarding the above situation. But the algorithm will still create these false relationships. Is there anyway to fix the records to show Ernest is NOT the child of Charles even though his mother, Esther, was, at one time, married to Charles? I suppose I could remove Charles completely but then, this would not reflect Esther's history and family ties (she did have 4 other children with Charles before his death - I haven't even tried to add them. I'm too discouraged.) This cannot be a unique situation to my family. Thank you for reading.

The Relatives at RootsTech algorithm pulls the information from your branch of the collaborative tree. Charles is shown as the father of Ernest. The algorithm isn't wrong, based on what is in the tree.
It's a simple fix: remove Charles as the father of Ernest, but leave him as the father of the earlier children born to him and Esther.

Thanks so much. I think I have finally found what you displayed (the replace/remove line) - not easy to locate! --- I've taken away Charles as Ernest's father. But other problems now....a duplication of one of the daughters under only Esther. Never a dull moment. Oh well, something to fiddle with another day.
Thanks again!

There appears to be a duplication of Ernest's wife as well.

Thanks, again, for pasting that page. Seeing your highlighted item was so helpful.
As for Ernest’s wife, both she and her mother were named Eliza so that might be what you are seeing. And as for the aforementioned Esther, her mother was also named Esther.
I'm glad families don’t do that so much anymore!

Ernest has 2 wives showing in that snip above - both Eliza, born the same year. One has a surname; the other does not.

Weird. Thanks.
not sure I much care for FTree.

That's also an easy fix - by merging the two profiles if they are for the same woman.
