Widows in City Directories.
When indexing City Directories, the instructions say not to index the deceased spouse. One thing that could help in this regard is if the fact that the person is a widow was noted some how, along with the spouses name. It can be very helpful as in the situation my wife found when searching the City Directory and discovered the wife's name and the note 'widow' which told my wife that her ancestor had died, and then could search for this death records and there found the names of his parents.
I don't think that this is a unique occurrence, but if just searching 'indexed' records, she would not have found that information.
Could this information possibly be included in the future (soon)?
Thanks,
Wayne Cooke

Indexing of the directories creates a finding aid, not a transcription. The user is expected to use the index to look at the directory. The image contains all sorts of information that is not indexed, such as addresses, employers/jobs, and, yes, deceased spouses.
