Data loss warning would be useful when merging people
When users merge two people in the family tree, it often happens that the remaining person ends up with less data than the one deleted (e.g. death date is removed).
This is probably due to carelessness on the part of the user who does the merging, not a conscious decision to discard that piece of information.
There should be a warning whenever:
a) data from the person to be deleted is not transferred to the remaining person, and
b) the relevant field is empty for the remaining person
A pop-up prompt like "Are you sure you do not want to keep ...?" could do the job.
It would save the hassle of repeatedly adding the same information to a person after another user happened to 'lose' it.

I'm helping a friend with merges because the existing messages scared her off: she was afraid of accidentally discarding something permanently. This argues that what's currently there (which I stopped paying attention to, years ago) is already too much, and further warnings would only deter merges that should occur, not the thoughtless/inattentive ones.
