You cannot add a living person from one account to another account. You can do it only with deceased profiles. This Help Article may be useful.

You might tell your son to just wait a week to work any more on his account. Unfortunately, unless you are going to RootsTech you can't attend this session: https://www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/session/introducing-family-group-trees-to-familysearch-org but I expect there will be a lot of information online following it.

@Gordon Collett Although the Family Group Trees feature is being discussed at RootsTech, I don't think it's safe to assume that the feature will be released to the general public by the time of RootsTech 2024.

Nothing is safe to assume when it comes to computer programming, but the presentation does say, "At last, your living family can share a tree..." which certainly sounds like its general release is coming. In any event, it's only a few days away and if it is released, then it would take care of what @Camille Plummer is asking for. So they might as well wait rather than her son spending the next four days creating a bunch of living duplicates.

@Gordon Collett Well, you're still making an assumption based on some vague wording for a class at RootsTech, and based on that suggesting that someone should delay getting started with Family Tree. It's not that hard to add some living people to bridge to the deceased ancestors and get started now using Family Tree. I would strongly recommend that any new user do that, rather than waiting.
After all, when Family Group Trees is finally released (which could be months from now), it won't magically solve the problem of duplicated living persons. There still needs to be someone to create a family group, set up the shared living people, invite other users to share the living persons, learn how to use Family Group Trees, etc. That's not a trivial effort.
Given that Family Group Trees are coming fairly soon, I do think it is prudent to counsel people at this point not to put a lot of effort into refining new living profiles. But I would certainly not counsel them to put their usage of Family Tree on hold based on a completely unknown release date of an anticipated feature.

This is certainly a personal judgement call for the family involved to make.
And I certainly would not advise someone to not start working in Family Tree at all. I didn't mean that. I meant there may be no need for him to create carbon copies of all the profiles of all the living people in his mother's account. He will have plenty to explore and work on regarding deceased relatives. If he follows the most recent of each of his deceased direct relatives he can jump right to them at any time. Also, of course, he can spend a few minutes putting in name-only profiles of enough living people to bridge to them.

@Gordon Collett said "Also, of course, he can spend a few minutes putting in name-only profiles of enough living people to bridge to them."
On that we are in complete agreement. Doing that will greatly facilitate the efforts "to explore and work on ... deceased relatives."
