does a place need to be standardized?

I am trying to verify places, but I am concerned we are losing information by doing that. on Elroy Wallace Johnson 9X2C-XWN his residence is listed as 1900 Precinct 20 Lake View Chicago city Ward 25, Cook, Illinois, United States. I can change that to Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States, but wouldn't it be nice if you were his decendant to know the rest of the information? Maybe the computer could be changed to just need standardized info on the birth marriage ad death dates. It has allowed cemetary names in the burial field. Just a suggestion.

The information will not be lost: the "verify placenames" activity only changes the background value (from "none" to whatever you pick from the database). The displayed value will still be exactly what it currently is.
