Family search input
On my family tree, I have been inputting family names from a tree i have recent came across a mapped out genealogy family tree during a reunion. I came across a couple who is a Father and Daughter that are coupled and are in the wrong generation period. I saw that familysearch inputted the couple with no sources, how can I request where fs in getting their information from?

When you see a profile on the FamilySearch Family Tree listing "FamilySearch" as the contributor, that usually means that the profile was created in an earlier version of the program. The names of contributors from those earlier versions could not be carried over to the new version.

So I could change it now that new information has come to light with sources to correct that from the previous contributors that had none?

The FamilySearch Family Tree is fully open-edit. Anyone with source information can add/change/edit/connect/correct.

I feel many have the same problem when we see "familysearch" as the contributor. That the information is assumed legit and factual since it has "family search" as the contributor.
Not everyone understands or knows...so therefore their afraid to edit or are unsure the information they have could be wrong.

Most of those "FamilySearch" attributions have been there for twelve years now: that's when the current Family Tree started and all of that legacy data was imported into it. Unfortunately but understandably, when they did that import, they couldn't get permission to publish the contributor names from all of the people who'd made those contributions over the preceding century or so.
I don't know whether it's possible to change the attribution labeling on the old data at this point, because "FamilySearch" is also credited occasionally for new/current changes, such as when administrators clean up abuse. I also don't have any good ideas on what it could be changed to, that wouldn't have the same false implication of verification. They can't really use "legacy"-anything, because people will think it's the genealogy software.
Or, they could change the text in the popup.
"Change made by authorized support staff" falsely implies verification. Losing "authorized" may help slightly, as would putting this possibility last. And the wording fails to include the most common possibility, of old imported data. Maybe: "FamilySearch. User-inputted data imported from a prior system, or a change made as part of an update or by support staff."

Only those profiles that are "read-only" cannot be edited. By default, all other profiles are open to editing. Do we need a long explanation? Not being argumentative - just saying that anything that covers all the options will have to be long and somewhat complicated. And may just provoke more posts about "What does this mean?"
