What does the 'c' mean on some of these entries, specifically in front of the wife's name such as on entry 15 (c; Della)? And on entry 7, do I index Clifford as the spouse?

"C" is most likely "Colored." Unless Clifford has "wid" or "widow of" before his name, you will index it. Mae H Williams is the widow of John and it is reported as such in the listing. You will not index John in that case.

thank you for clarifying the meaning of 'c'. I didn't realize that info was part of the directory. I understand names in parenthesis indicates a spouse and should be indexed unless it is indicated by "wid" or "widow" Thanks for your help
