Previously when searching on a film number you would get results on the indexed data if you typed in a last name, or only a first name. Now you only get results if those are left blank... so you get the whole index. Such as searching on film #008017671.

It appears that they've slightly improved the film/group number matching -- but only if that's the only search field in use. The moment you add any other parameters, the film/group field goes back to its literal-minded algorithm, where 8017671 doesn't match 008017671 or 008017671_009_M99M-FL5.

The workaround is to pad the number with asterisks. (For example: https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.filmNumber=%2A8017671%2A&q.givenName=Ladislaus.)

And I thought, aren't we lucky to have such an easy-to-use system? 😄

If only there was a way to know when something is changed. Oh wait, there is, but, for some reason, it doesn't get used much. /s
