You will index both, separating the names by the word Or on the Petition.
Ex:
Given Name: John Or Jon
Surname: Smith Or Smyth
This instruction is found on the Field Help (purple question mark) of both the Given and Surnames:
Include all aliases, nicknames, or variant names that were given for a person, separating them with the word Or.
This instruction is also located under Project Instructions/General Indexing Guidelines/Alias Names.
You will index what the name has been to on the Oath of Allegiance.

I am indexing a Petition for Naturalization and the Oath of Alegience is shown in image 2, but it is obviously the back side of the Petition. Do I index these as two separate entries, or combine the information and combine as 1 image?

You will index two separate entries. OOAs are their own separate document and are indexed as such.

The California naturalization petition does not ask for the sex of the applicant. My first entry was for an applicant from India named “Shanti.” I have no idea what sex that is. The quality check specifies that the applicant’s sex entry is a must. Also, the batch submission link with the paper airplane icon that was in the tutorial is missing at the bottom of the actual live record entry. I’m trying to do indexing on an Apple iPad Mini 4. I conclude that my device is NOT indexing friendly, although the reviewing and indexing project in the Spring of 2022 WAS smoothly and easily doable on this same iPad.

You will mark the sex <BLANK>. We do not determine sex by the name. As for the airplane, it is second from the left on your toolbar.
