I am trying to find the birth date, month and exact year for my great-grandmother, Katherine Josephine Concannon who was born in Tuam, Galway, Ireland. I have several birth years based on Find a Grave and a few census reports. She immigrated to the US and ended up in Baltimore in the 1880's I believe. She died on 9/21/1957 in Baltimore, MD. She was married to John Michael Lyston. Thanks for any information.

Hi @Kathleen ClaireTaylor I would recommend you join and post in the Ireland Research Group where there are several knowledgeable Irish researchers.

You may not find an exact date of birth. Since it appears Katherine was born before 1864 (1859 on her grave marker), we will be relying on church baptismal records. Civil registration of births began in Ireland in 1864. Irish baptismal records of that time generally show the date of baptism but not the date of birth. Children were normally baptized as quickly as possible after birth so that baptism date will be a close approximation of her date of birth.

If her parents were James Concannon and Catherine Flanagan, your Katherine (Catherine) was baptized on 29 Dec 1859 in Tuam. She was likely born that week, possibly even that day. https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000632082#page/24/mode/1up

    Hope this helps!
