Hello,

I am a Brit and I'm considering going to the RootsTech convention in Salt Lake City and would have an extra day to visit the Family History Library which is close by the convention center.

My question is: what might I be able to access at the FHL that I can't access anywhere else?

I would want to make the best use of my time there and be organized for my visit. Any help is most appreciated

Thanks

Sarah

Hi @SarahCarson This blog post is a few years old, but it gives a good overview of how to get ready for a research trip in SLC. Many genealogical lecturers also have presentations online with pointers about planning a trip to the FSL.

    Have a great trip!

@SarahCarson Timely blog post today from GenealogyBank: https://blog.genealogybank.com/researching-at-a-genealogy-library.html

And I realize (belatedly) that I didn't respond to your basic question:

what might I be able to access at the FHL that I can't access anywhere else?

As mentioned in the blog post from GBank, there are many items available at a genealogy library that are not digitized. And, in the case of SLC, there are many records available that are digitized but can only be viewed in SLC. Without knowing exactly what time period and location(s) you are researching, it's difficult to say exactly what you might find.
