Why does a dismissed Research Suggestion return?
January 17, 2024. I just wrote a several paragraph reason for why Jeremiah Ingalls KNYK_42B did not have more children. Looking at previous dismissed/resolved suggestions, I see that I wrote a several paragraph reason for dismissal on this very topic in July 2023.
Why is this suggestion not staying dismissed?

In your screen shot you are showing the Dismissed Helps tab:
These research helps are all dismissed and will stay there until someone un-dismisses them. As you can see, the reason they were dismissed is displayed here as well.
As with almost everything in Family Tree, nothing is lost forever. These remain on that separate tab in case someone wants to review them and see if they were dismissed in error. What I occasionally do when working on a profile is to look and see if there are any such dismissed hints. After I have improved the profile as much as I can, I then un-dismiss the helps and see if the information I have added makes them completely disappear from the profile. If not, I dismiss them again.

Methinks you misunderstood the original question.
I, me, myself dismissed both of those suggestions, with the attached reason statements.
Why do the suggestions reappear? (I did not un-dismiss it for myself.) OR Why do suggestions that have been resolved and dismissed post again?
What can be done to PERMANENTLY RESOLVE unhelpful suggestions? This suggestion has no further usefulness, as the man definitely did not have more wives/girlfriends/relations or children?
I'm not really asking for forum feedback. I'm working on this at a FamilySearch Center. I just couldn't find anywhere else to post a request for resolving this issue on the Research Helps view.

Whoops! Sorry! I think I finally understand. You are not saying that a dismissed help reappeared, but that a new help was generated recently that happened to have the same text as an old help you previously dismissed. That is a very good question.
Since the hint really has nothing to do with Jeremiah but rather with his wife, I would look at her record and see what may have been going on there. In particular if someone added a duplicate wife, which then generated the hint, then merged the duplicate wives, leaving the new hint.

Jeremiah Ingalls has two wives. Thus the "Possible Missing Child" research suggestion can appear for each of the wives, and that is what is happening here. One of the dismissed suggestions is for Lana, and the other for Sally. If you go to Lana and look at her dismissed research suggestions, you'll see one of them; if you go to Sally and look at her dismissed research suggestions, you'll see the other one. The display of these dismissed suggestions could be done in a better way to make it clear that it applies to a particular spouse; right now both are listed under Jeremiah's person in a way that shows no connection to a particular spouse.
This same ambiguity applies to when the original research suggestion is shown. When the Possible Missing Child suggestion first appeared on Jeremiah, it was almost certainly not clear which spouse it was referring to. Thus it would be easy to write a detailed explanation about Jeremiah and Lana not having more children and inadvertently attach it as the explanation for Jeremiah and Sally (which is what seems to have happened in this case). Then when the Possible Missing Child suggestion was shown that was truly for Jeremiah and Lana, it would appear that the suggestion was "returning", when it was actually for a different couple.

Although Alan explains the situation perfectly fine, I didn't see his statement until refreshing my browser halfway through writing this and I do want to try redeem myself after my too hasty and foolish misreading of your original post.
Looking more closely in Family Tree at the individuals involved, the change log, the two dismissed hints, and your reasons statements for dismissing them, it is pretty evident what happened and that the program is functioning just fine. The only trouble is that the hint statement is a bit vague.
So the only question is, why when you dismissed the hint for Lana in July 2023 was the hint for Sally not there? I assume you would have dismissed it at that time if i had been. There must have been some type of activity on either Sally's or Jeremiah's profile that trigged the program to recalculate the research helps and applied the new one. I don't see anything in the Change Log such as new information added that would have triggered such but there may have been some routine background database management that did.
