Missing year of Nati/Birth for 1898 in Castel Del Giudice Italy (Isernia)

The year 1898 in Castel Del Giudice Italy (Isernia) is missing. I am guessing the book was missing or destroyed? What is my recourse for research in that event? I don't think there are any alternatives short of trying to get in touch with the church to research records? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
