Hello, I found someone's tree and realized that he (a creator) is a grandson of my 4Xgreat granfather. Once creating my own tree, I added 4xgreat grandfather name but it wasn't found anywhere... so that I had to create his new profile. Now, there are two of the same person. When I try to merge IDs from grandson's tree and my tree, FamilySearch cannot find it. What's happened here? :( I tried many times to add IDs.

Profiles for living people are private to the user who entered them. You and your cousin will have different profiles for each other when you're signed in with your own accounts. This is by design and not something that needs to or can be changed. You'll both connect to the same profiles for your deceased relatives.

Hi Julia, if I cannot merge the trees, how can I connect them? Previosuly, when I was adding my great grandmother's name to my tree, the system found that someone similar exists in FamilySearch and it's possible to connect. I agree to the connection and suddenly, my great grandmother relatives displayed in my tree which is great! However, in the case of my 4xgreat grandfather, I cannot find neither him nor his son as it's shown below :( I'm sure that both exist in FamilySearch. Is it somehow related to what you wrote?

Your connection will be through the nearest deceased ancestor.

@Agnieszka608  I think your problem relates to confusion about where you have found another version of your 4x great grandfather. It looks like you have found the following in the Genealogies section of Family Search:

    Krystian Ferdynand Hostman

    2:2:Q6DB-LHZ

Genealogies is completely separate to the Family Search Family Tree; it is a collection of static trees uploaded by users of the site. Those trees are fixed, they can’t be amended and individual profiles from those trees cannot be merged into the FS Family Tree as you are trying to do.

@Julia Szent-Györgyi and @Áine Ní Donnghaile are far better qualified than me to explain this to you (I don’t use the FT) but I think perhaps they’ve misunderstood your question.

Ah, thank you, @Ruth H_1, you're exactly right: it appears that Agnieszka is trying to merge a profile in Genealogies (also known as the Pedigree Resource File) with a profile in the Family Tree. It's easy to confuse the two, given that both use the same hyphenated format of ID for profiles, and both can display the data in very similar pedigree charts.

However, they are, in fact, completely separate things, and there is no automated transfer mechanism between them. (Well, OK, there sort of is one for the user who originally uploaded the file into Genealogies, but that doesn't sound like it applies here.)

What you can do instead is to open the static file in one browser tab, and the collaborative Family Tree in another tab, and transfer the data by copying and pasting as needed. It's a good idea to look for sources as you go, to support the uploaded file's conclusions, but the hinting system will eventually turn things up, too, if they're indexed on FS.
