Record Hints
For over a year, I am transferring my genealogy records to FamilyTree. So far I did more than 17000 persons. One of the strengths of FamilyTree is the ability to link the individuals to resources. FamilySearch itself provides the most basic sources, such as baptisms, marriages, deaths, and I have been able to add about 2000 notarial and similar records as sources.
When I open FamilyTree, a list of persons for whom FamilyTree may have found source documents appears under the heading 'Record Hints'. That is fine, and of course I attach these documents to the persons.
Recently however, something has changed. The persons in the list are no longer so closely related. My list now has officially 400 people, in reality more, because if I process a few of those people, the counter remains at 400. The vast majority of the persons in the list are unknown to me. Is there any way I can set which distant relatives I want to attach sources to, or that I can remove a person from the list without having attached documents to that person?

Apparently, you've already attached all the hints for your closer relatives, so until/unless new indexes get published, the list on your home page needs to look further afield. The list is not meant to ever be "depleted" (although I'm sure sometimes it is).
I find that the best use of the list on the home page (and of the entire home page, in fact) is to ignore it wholesale. I work from the chart views instead: the fan chart for all of my direct ancestors, descendancy charts for all of an ancestor's descendants. When there's a hint (blue icon) on a person, I open the profile's detail page in a new tab, and look at the hint(s) from there. This way, I have all of the details available, instead of stabbing in the dark like what the home page's list makes me feel like I'm doing. (I mean, yeah, I can recognize offhand that vaguely-matching names from Hajdúböszörmény probably have nothing to do with Mom's family from Dunaszerdahely, but there was that one great-uncle who worked for the railroad...)

Hi Julie,
Glad to see you again. Essentially you say: no, there is nothing you can do with repect to the contents of Record Hints, so simply ignore it. That is what I am going to do, now that I feel unhappy with these hints. But in the past, I liked it, for every now and then a source for a remote uncle or aunt turned up, which not rarely led to the conclusion that something in FamilyTree was incorrect.
Best wishes,
Fred

@FredSimons While I agree with most of what Julia said, I would add that new record collections come online all the time, and new family connections can be made in Family Tree by you or by others. So in the future, you may very well see new hints for closer relatives, just as you have in the past.
Even though your list of hints for closer relatives may be depleted at this moment, and so your hint list contains only more distant relatives, check your hint list once in a while to see if it has helpful updates.
