Is an adoptee able to have their nonbiological tree as their default tree?

I have a friend whose father left the family. His mother remarried and he was raised by the father who adopted him. He would like to have his adopted father's family tree and not be connected to his biological father. Is this possible?

Hi Mary Lyn Welcome to FamilySearch Community and asking your question about adopted parents. The simple answer to your question is yes, it is possible. An individual can have multiple sets of parents and it is possible to designate the type of relationship to each parent. For example, the relationship type can be specified to be biological, adopted, step, foster, and guardian. Then in the case of multiple parents, it is possible to set the preferred parents which is what will show up on the pedigree charts for example. Normally a person would define all the parental relationships, specify the type of relationship with each parent and then chose the preferred parents. Here are some links that will help.
