Are you using the App? On the Following page in a browser, PC, the names are all hyperlinks.

If you are on the initial Following page (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/following/) then clicking on a person's name will indeed show the person card, which has a Person button that will take you directly to the person. If you use the Options button to set the "View By" selection to "Person" then you'll see the initial Following list in the same order as shown in the screen shot you included.
The screen shot is from the popup that appears when you click the People I am Following button. On that screen, the ID can be copied (which at least allows the person to be found by ID), but for some reason, clicking on a person's name does nothing. I agree that it would be nice if it could show the person card, allowing direct access to the person.

The "people I am following" button is on the Deceased People I am Following page. Redundant. Why would I click on another button to see the same information?

Good question. I can't see how to manipulate the labels from the main list, only from the pop-up, so that's the only reason to access that pop-up list that I can see. Otherwise, the main list is far more useful, given that it can also show the latest changes.
I suspect that I had no idea the pop-up list existed.

Oversight or attempt at consistency?
If the Following list is sorted by Deceased People I Am Following, the pop up doesn't have much use because you can attach labels via the three vertical dot menu:
But if set to sort by All Changes, the only way to add labels is through that pop up:
because the three dot menu is not there.

Actually, it's "if set to View By All Changes" - not "if set to Sort By All Changes".
To my mind, the absence of the three-dot menu makes sense if we're viewing "By Changes", because the primary key for the line is the change and that's gone past the level of the person who will have (or not) the label. (The difference is reflected in the title of the list - one is "Deceased People I am Following" and the other is "All Changes".)
Since I never use the View By All Changes version I can't really say whether the missing 3-dot menu is a handicap or not.
