Family Tree Maker 2019 not connecting to Familysearch

December 14, 2023 edited January 16 in General Questions

I have been using Family search within the Family Tree Maker 2019 program. It has been working fine until a couple of days ago. I have family members in my Family Tree Maker Program (FTM) with saved IDs for Family search. It used to let me click on those IDs and it would pull the family search page and I could merge the info into the program. As of the last couple of days, it will only pull up possible new people. If I click on the known ids it claims it can't find it.

I am having to same difficulty in that when I go to find or search for an exiting person on FamilySearch who has been previously matched within Family Tree Maker, the person cannot be found. My guess is FamilySearch changed something on their end which requires an update with Family Tree Maker.

I commented only to report that it is not an isolated incident. At first, I thought it was a setting issue. I am going to contact them now.

They said their engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a fix that will be fixed with a future update with no timeline supplied.

I suggest you contact Mackiev, the current publisher of FTM, through their Live Chat service. https://support.mackiev.com/597357-Live-Chat-Service

Again, contact Mackiev, as the publisher of FTM. They will be responsible for support. FamilySearch does not support the partner products.

Thanks everyone! I checked with them as well. The first time I chatted with them, the person was not helpful. I chatted a second time and got the same answer -- they are aware, working on it, no specific time frame (Which stinks, so I hope it is quick!).

I have the same FTM 2019 problem both with my prior 24.1.0.1520 and the current 24.2.2.1560 installed 12/18/2023. The hope was it would fix the issue on my Win 10 PC. Until recently, the old version would search and find the focus person and show "Search result detail" in lower right area. Then one can Merge the results with that focus person.

Me three. Web Search is broken. I can no longer assign a familysearch_id to to an FTM record. familysearch.org changed something. I hope the war does not greatly slow down MacKiev's FTM update.

For weeks Ancestry has not been able to load Familysearch. When will this be resolved?

@Joan G Bohm , could you please clarify what you mean by "load FamilySearch"? In general, Ancestry is independent of FamilySearch, although there are some points of integration. Are you talking about connections between Ancestry Trees and FamilySearch Family Tree? Or record collections? Or something else? It would be helpful if you could provide screen shots, URLs, or specific steps that you are following and error messages you are seeing.

When I reported the isssue last month, this is the response I got from FTM.

    Hi Joan,

    Thanks for contacting!

There are still no estimates given. However, since it is qualified as program issue and the fix to bypass FamilySearch changes on their side is required it will take time to develop this fix and implement it in the next FTM update. Unless, FamilySearch fixes it on their end (well, they won't tell you that they have issues of course), the fix from FTM 2019 side won't occur very soon.

My apologies about waiting! Once I have confirmed information about timeframes or any workarounds, I will directly write you.

    Regards,

    Brandon

@Joan G Bohm That's not Ancestry; that's Family Tree Maker. You'll find a few threads where people have commented about the problem. It will be a fix from the Family Tree Maker engineers. Have you contacted them through their Live Chat?

At one time, Ancestry owned Family Tree Maker, but that is no longer the case.

Thanks you for your prompt response. The answer I got was in the copy I sent to you. So no one is taking responsibility, the problem still exisits, and with no one fixing it, that simply leaves us hanging.

I hope you can be patient. Perhaps you are not aware that MacKiev, the producer of Family Tree Maker, is located in Ukraine.

I first noticed these problems on December 17. In my case, any attempt to search FamilySearch from FTM's Web Search workspace results in a message like "No results found". Searching works as usual for the other supported websites.

I also contacted FTM support and got a similar somewhat vague response.

I've since worked out that I noticed the problem just after the December 2023 Microsoft Patch Tuesday update was installed on my PC on 14 December. That is "2023-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5033372)". It will have a different name if you are using a different version of Windows. That is a security-related patch, so it may have broken the communications between FTM and FS. If that is the case, we can all point our fingers again at everybody's favourite scapegoat.

    Hello,

Is anyone have issue with using FamilySearch within Family Tree Maker?

For some reason I'm getting No Records found (within FTM) but when is search directly in FamilySearch the record exists.

Any suggestions on possible solutions greatly appreciated

Yes, other people are having the same problem, and there's at least one thread about it somewhere in the Community, but I can't get the search to cough it up.

As far as I know, the only solution currently is to not try to search FS from within FTM.

The Family Tree Maker 2024 upgrade is currently available only as a pre-order. This is from MacKiev: "Right now it is going through final testing and being given some finishing touches – we expect it to start shipping later this year. "

I experienced the same thing in early 2023, but with being able to sync your FTM tree to your Ancestry tree. Took them about 9 months before that problem was fixed.
