Creating Profiles from Records
Hi,
Can I create a profile directly from a record? As at the moment I create a profile then add record.

Source Linker can add a new profile for a person who was indexed, yes. It'll use the indexed relationship(s) to do so.
However, there's a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem involved: chances are, you'll enter all of the information, only to have to make a decision: discard your entries and use the profile it found using them, or keep your entries and create a duplicate for the profile it found. I therefore find it easier to add the missing profile the usual way, and then refresh Source Linker to attach the record.

Hi Julia,
Thanks for that, but what I'm looking for is when you have a record that has no attachments at all to start of with.

@clanmc61 That's exactly what Julia explained. A record can be used to create the profile.

I do not know of a way to add an unrelated person from an index entry, but how often do you need to do that, really? Genealogy is all about relationships and connections, not individual people.

An unrelated person can be added by going to "Recents" and then "Add an Unconnected Person". https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-add-an-unconnected-person-to-family-tree. Although we call them "unrelated person," it can be any person that needs to be added to Family Tree that we have not found a way to do by "Add Spouse," "Add Child" or another way.

@PABulfinch, I presume that the poster, like me, is aware of the "Add Unconnected Person" button at the bottom of Recents. However, that does not start from or use the data from an index entry, the way Source Linker's "Add" function does.
Perhaps I should rephrase: I am not aware of a way to get Source Linker to add an unconnected person.

Hi Julia,
You said "I do not know of a way to add an unrelated person from an index entry" I totally agree, But when I do a search for Profiles that I have created I get no useful results.
You said "how often do you need to do that, really?" because there are many many index entries with no connected profiles, (A lot of these indexes don't have surnames) So I decided to create profiles for all people with the same surname form my target region.
You said "Genealogy is all about relationships and connections, not individual people." My hope is that one of these profiles will connect, to my wife's family tree
This I believe will also help others when they do searching for family members, and help the Search Engine work more effectively (not sure about this)

Hi Julia,
I should have proof read my response, instead of saying
You said "I do not know of a way to add an unrelated person from an index entry" I totally agree, But when I do a search for Profiles that I have created I get no useful results.
Should have said
When I do a search in records for my Profiles on my wife's tree that I have created I get no useful results.
You said "I do not know of a way to add an unrelated person from an index entry"
That's my problem
You said "Genealogy is all about relationships and connections, not individual people." I totally agree, My hope is that one of these profiles will connect, to my wife's family tree
