This is my first batch in this project. Did I do it correctly? and is there any way when indexing the first entry to split the screen to keep the entry fields while going through the remaining images?

You did this one just fine. To have the split screen effect, just open your reference images and you'll be able to move freely within the batch

You need to put commas between the levels of locality in the birthplace and mark Images 2 - 4 as NNED. The Reference Images are opened by clicking on the bottom icon on the vertical toolbar, which is supposed to look like an open book.
