On the 1910 Fed Census, in the last columns is written 15-5-X-1.

census taker's instructions. I'd like to know what these numbers and alpha X means. Thank you.

    Those are codes added at the Census Bureau, presumably to speed up later classification. They aren't in the instructions to the census enumerators because it was not part of what the enumerators did but added later.
