The sex on both images will be marked blank.

Even though the gentleman is married in image 1, the sex of his spouse is not specified. We know that usually, Irving is a masculine name, but for the sake of indexing, we have to "play dumb" when it comes to the sex of the applicant. If there are no indicators such as wife, widower or Mrs., we leave it blank. This also applies to occupations such as fireman or policeman. Historically speaking, anything that ended with -man or -tress matched with the sex, but we also cannot use that as a gender indicator.

Image 2: The birthplace is Cork, County Cork, Ireland. "Co" is the abbreviation of "county." Irish counties are historical administrative districts (divisions?) and the term "County X" is still used in Ireland.
