Should other wives and husbands of children be indexed?
I am currently reviewing US, Montana, Polson—Tribal Genealogies, 1870–1995[MQD5-DHR]. the directions say " do not index individuals listed as "husband's other wives" or "wife's other husbands." These individuals will be indexed in a separate record."
Does this direction only pertain to the father and mother of the family? Or does it also pertains to the childrens "other wives and husbands"?

You don't index the children's spouses.

You do index children's spouses, but not their "other spouses". Everyone on a card gets a record except for "other wives" and "other husbands" who will have their own cards. On the 4th example they show how to index a "son in law" and the drop down has almost every possible relationship that could exist. You can also determine the sex of the spouse based on the gender of the child. On the example, the child is a female, so they index the spouse as a son-in-law. They also do not index this child's "other marriages" included in the box at the bottom of the form.
Each of the examples has a slightly different instruction, but, they all note to index every name on the record with the only exception being not to index from the line of other husbands or wives.
