Broken Sources on iPhone Safari and other complaints and suggestions
To Whom This May Concern:
I originally submitted this to the email address: nasupport@familysearch.org. They mentioned that I should submit my inquires here.
I am sick and tired of having to REENTER my user name and password at times what seems like every few days. If I log in for "2 weeks" then I should be logged in for "2 weeks."
Also the new update site has some changes that I don't like.
I don't like that you can't add to a location without the location going back to what was originally in the box (see next paragraph). I.E. County, State, US. (from an Iphone using Safari)
I want add or look for a city, hospital or cemetery and type it in front of the above mentioned data. And if I added a wrong name and click with the cursor the entire new info I typed goes away and the original County, State, US returns. The same is said for not being able to use the "Home" and "End" buttons (on a computer) when you are in fillable box. (from an Iphone using Safari)
Previously you were able to copy a census location on the "Events" "Residence" or "Burial" location. Now you have to go through extra steps to open the "Residence" or Burial copy it then close it out and then paste it.
Also I wish that your site would allow as you type (auto fill) recommended spots instead of having to type out the whole place. The current auto fill is way to stringent. It would even be nice if as you type in a location of a county, township or city it would allow the option of all the registered spots in that town. I.E. hospital, parks, neighborhoods, schools etc... The site very stringent when it comes to looking under Historical Locations - Places. You literally have to type out the whole place. I.E. and God forbid if you left memorial or general when searching for a hospital out then nothing comes up.
The Immigration "Event" is broken. If you try to update it by adding or removing from the "Reason" box it won't allow you to save. I'd end up deleting the Immigration and looking for the Census with that year and detach the person then re-attach them to add the Immigration "Event".
I always enjoyed looking at the timeline map. The new map and mechanics sucks go back to the old map; it was easier to navigate. The wheel on the mouse was a lot easier then those + and - buttons.
I also use your site on the Safari and the updated version gets my blood boiling. Since the site (by phone or computer access) doesn't offer "all" recommended records under the "Research Help" and you have to look under the "Sources" tab in the "Similar Records" to find possible missing records of a person. The issue is when you start opening the records in the "Sources" tab the screen goes blank and says something like "Oops something went wrong and to refresh the page." You refresh the page and the same error message shows up. It keeps showing up because that was the last source that was opened. You don't see any of the other sources at all. The same thing happens if you look on the attached sources in the vital page. This also happens if you open up a source on the Vitals page and expand a census record etc... (from an Iphone using Safari)
Can an update to the Sources tab allowing you to click the "Detail View" which opens all the sources. BUT, it doesn't show any "Similar Records." You have to open EACH individual source to see "Similar Records." There numerous times that records appear under Similar Records BUT don't appear on the Details tab under "Research Help."
I also don't like how when you click on a record it doesn't open in a new page. If you got to compare information it is now a pain having to remember the info. Allow it like it used to be where the record would open in a new page.
The same is true concerning FAG site before there was a link to FAG in the sources section of the "Burial" that took you directly to the site instead of that nonsense of having to click two times to go to the FAG site. Also why is it defaulted to automatically add the location of the cemetery and not add the cemetery? I.E. Arlington, VA US. shows up instead allow Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, US. Another thing that is missing is the memorial ID from the FAG site was in the Family Search info box under burial since the update it is no longer there. That memorial ID was helpful when updating a person who was missing a relative on the FAG site. You could copy the memorial ID from the Family Search page and paste onto the person on the FAG site.
On Safari I can't stand it that as you update a name, date or location the page zooms in and it becomes a nightmare at times trying to update simple information. The page moves etc...
Also to save time on the site don't allow partial named months anymore. Have the site automatically update them to standard dates and the same for locations too.
I request that the site would add a date to date calculator to help with adding a person's birth date. Add the calculator to the Tools option on a person's Detail page.
A calendar would be nice too. Especially when on the FAG page there are obituary notices that would say the day of a funeral but not the date. You would select the calendar and input the person's death date which would now show the month and year and if they died on XXX date you can now figure out the actual day of the funeral.
I'm sure that this was recommended before but I would like to see the locations expanded (under Historical Locations - Places). Meaning If I go to search the location and look for a particular cemetery all the buried ones that are annotated on this site shows up at the cemetery. This would be helpful when viewing FAG to compare if the same names or how many more or less of a particular name is there or missing.
The same with cities, townships, counties and states. This would be helpful when looking for a particular name that is spelled wrong. I.E. a family record is found for 1900, 1920, 1930 but you can't find 1910. By looking through the created database for that particular city, township or county you found the family in question under a totally different spelling of the last name.
Also, searching a hospital and seeing who was recorded as being born or died there.
The reason you believe the person is dead box is a waste. Just add simple check boxes like when you are selecting Not Related.
Some of the 1950 US Censuses are broken etc... Sometimes the Year box and Location box aren't on the screen allowing you to click on them to add to the person or persons in question. You have to go to the Events page select Residential and add the year and location information.
