Our ancestry goes through the first spouses line but even though I have that one marked as preferred it is showing the other spouses line. Is there some way to change this?

While viewing a New Ancestor Memory notification I clicked on the option to View Relationship. Scrolling down to myself, I notice that my ex wife is shown as my spouse, not my current wife, mother of my children, and marked as preferred in both the family page and in the tree. I suggest you change the program to choose the preferred spouse when showing the ancestral relationship. Thank you for your help. Bob

Only you can see those details since only the person who entered the profile for a living person can see that profile. And you can change the preferred spouse in your own profile.

The relationship view will use any spouse at the beginning or end, and will use any parents along the way, choosing the shortest relationship path through a common ancestor. Preferred relationships are not a factor in the calculation of the shortest path through relationships in Family Tree.

As I understand it, since preferred relationships are a per-user preference, accounting for them in the calculation of the shortest path would be quite expensive, so they are not considered.

I discovered the answer to my question. Thank you to those who tried to answer my question.

If your family tree is not showing the line that you go through then you need to click the arrow on the left beside the couple relationship on the tree. This will open a window that says "Set preferred parents for...." you then click which parents you come from.

Sylvia Brown's answer is true when there are multiple spouses - the arrow attached to couple box will let you choose between spouses to view each line. However the landscape and profile tree views do not show unknown spouses under that same arrow and I'm getting enough inconsistencies that I cant quite figure out the full function. This is super frustrating because I am dealing with a lot of lines that have multiple undocumented spouses and half siblings and appreciate being able to switch between while in a wider family view.

Instead of the arrow indicating multiple named spouses, there is a little people icon next to a person's name and if that is selected the different spouses AND "Unknown Spouse" will appear. Sometimes there is a toggle circle in front of each spouse but other times there is no toggle to select and it seems once I've selected the unknown spouse I can't switch back - the tree gets stuck.

I can go back to the profile view, select Set Preferred Relationships and there is a "No Spouse" option which will set that descendant line to appear in the tree view. But then I cannot toggle back to the line with the named spouse and have to go back to profile view. This seems super buggy and disruptive to work flow.

Another new annoying change is that in profile view, the non-preferred line now has children hidden under a drop-down arrow by default. Doesn't matter how many times I open it, it rehides the children every time the page refreshes.
