Hiding or deleting Friends messages from the Feed on a Home Page

Seven months ago, I added an individual to my Friends list and he sent me a short test message that appeared in the Feed on my Home Page. I found that I had no way of deleting or even hiding the test message from my Feed, except by removing him from my Friends list. I haven't used the Friends feature since.

At a minimum, there needs to be a way to hide a Friends message from the Feed once the message has been read.
