Petitions for Naturalization are not having dates correct. Why? Is it me or is it the indexer.

The 20 of March 1953 is the correct date. It is found on the affidavit of witnesses section. The project instructions state:
For petitions for naturalization or petitions for citizenship that have a date recorded only in the affidavit of witnesses section, type that date in the appropriate fields for the same person. Do not include any other information from affidavits of witnesses. If multiple dates were recorded in the affidavit of witnesses section, index the date according to the following priority:
- Date oath was administered by clerk or deputy clerk of court
- Date oath was administered by designated examiner
- Date the petition was filed
You will need to use the reference images to see the affidavit of witnesses section for this petition. In this case it will be reference image +1. Go to the reference images by clicking on the bottom icon on the vertical tool bar. It looks somewhat like an open book. you will see the page with the affidavit of witnesses section at the top and the Oath of Allegiance section at the bottom. The date you are looking for is near the bottom of the top section.
Hope this answers your question🙂
Also if you check examples #1 and #2 in the project instructions it should help answer your question🙂
