It would be wonderful to have a map feature that was able to located where is source is from ( The specific town) . This would be helpful when adding sources or merging to see how far apart a location is and to see that the names may be close- but they are not the same location.

    Have you seen the Places tool? https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/?pagenum=1&pagesize=20

    When researching a merge, you can compare the Time Line tabs of the two profiles to see if the places are reasonable. (No, you can't do that once you've initiated a merge, but you can't compare notes and biographies there, either, so whatever FS's intentions were with the design of the merge process, it doesn't work for proper comparisons. You have to do those before you start.)
