I previously submitted a comment, but I had a power outage, and I am not sure if it was successfully submitted. So, I am commenting again. My original comment asked that search filters be made useful. At present, the filters are USELESS. In a recent search for Margaret Ellen Burgess, I entered her date of birth, 1800, and her death in 1845. I indicated her place of birth and death was Antrim, Ireland. Finally, I named John (no middle name) McMichael as her spouse. The result of the search was a 20 page list of names. However, you would never know that I had applied a filter. Results of the search included birthdates from 1797 to 1906. Death dates ranged from 1833 to 2007. Places of birth and death included England, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, and Canada. In the first 100 names in the list, there were six Margarets. Two of them had no middle name, or middle initial. The other four had a middle name other than the name specified in my search. If the filters are not to be applied, then don’t offer them to the user. It is frustrating, to say the least!
