Why has the split screen index and info been removed from the census page displays?

Previously, the entire page indexing was shown at the bottom of the screen. That has been replaced with a banner displaying thumbnails of the continuing stream of pages, allowing you to move easily from page to page. However, this is not necessary, since the image number can just as easily be changed in the upper left. Having the entire page index was a great feature, as one could select multiple indexes from the page (even the entire page!) copy-and-paste into a spreadsheet (or any application) for further analysis. I did this often, copying entire families over multiple years onto a single spreadsheet page to analyze how the family changed over the years and resolve discrepancies. You have made such analysis much more difficult. In general, your practice of linking to an intermediate index page instead of linking immediately to the original document I find to be pretty useless. Having to scroll down a page to see all the information is very difficult to integrate mentally, as opposed to having it all in one view. My 2¢. <g>

Both options are available. Now that more fields can be edited in many records, especially censuses, the view to which you refer gives easier access to the editing process.

To change the view to the one we've seen for years, just edit the URL by deleting everything starting with the question mark.

The new interface has become extremely difficult to use, information that was previously easy to grasp and collect is now spread all over the place. I want the page indexing back on the census pages the way it used to be. One could see a whole line or a whole family in a glance, now one has to scroll down a long column and open another tab then everything is still all spread out. Do your designers even use the site? Why, when I want to see an original document, do I have to go through an intermediate page of indexed data first, that I have to scroll interminably to read through it all? Especially when the actual document has everything all in one glance? This is becoming impossible to use.

@Karl W Swartz It looks to me like this is an Indexing not a Family Tree question. Please post in Indexing, as we were not able to move it. Thank you, PaulaAnn

It's not an indexing question @PABulfinch. It's a Search question.

Thank you! It really helps having the transcriptions in a usable format.
