I have not seen this question asked.

Often another name is in brackets. This is with both Christian and Surnames.

eg. Marcellus [Mbongeni]

Is this entered with OR separating the two names?

    Project: Zimbabwe, Bulawayo—Church Records, 1894–2022[MQZ2-T23]

Here is an example of what Diane SHAW_1 is talking about. I have come across it several times in reviewing.

I've come across several other variations that also are not straight forward in this project as how to enter the given name. I've included some examples below. They include a variety of punctuation symbols between one or more multiple given names; one or more given names on the left and another on the right (Note: The name on the far right is often skipped by the indexer or sometimes entered as the surname if none is listed).

Moderator(s): Does the various punctuation have any special meaning in regards to Christian name, middle name or alias or birth/"Heathen" name on some forms? How do we treat the additional name to the far right, with and without parenthesis?

For the christian name, index the names with or in between ie: xx or yy. This would apply to when the one name is in brackets, separated by a / or written in corner of record. One name is the childs original black birth name, the other name is the new catholic name.

On the surnames, the name in brackets is the village each parent came from, it is not indexed as part of the surname. In this example you will also see the same name written on next line under parents "place of residence ..." https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/batch/3b428c43-bc22-4fed-a6fb-0f4867bd3195

Thanks for your input. However, for the majority of the names shown in parentheses in the surname field that I've come across so far do show up as Zimbabwe surnames from genealogy records [source: Forebear.io].

I will be sticking to the "Surname Or Surname" format until the instructions change or a moderator chimes in otherwise.

This as very informative thank you. I will be sticking to the Surname Or Surname Format as well.
