how to exchange trees from ancestry or vice versa

Keep in mind that on Ancestry - each person has an individual database that they have control over. That is not the case in Familysearch.
In FamilySearch it is ONE massive collaborative database that we all share.
So in some ways trying to copy stuff over is like putting a round peg in a square hole.
and chances are the vast majority of the people you have in Ancestry is already in FamilySearch to begin with.
(Familysearch has billions of records in its single massive database)
copying things over from Ancestry to FS - would simply create a bunch of duplicates for records that are already in the system - and potentially cause a big mess.
There are some ways that in a controlled way you can bring stuff over
but its almost not worth the effort - because they are two different systems with two very different achitectural paradigms.
First you should do some sort of analysis to see if most of your family records are already in Familysearch already.

As an aside ...
.
We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
We ONLY have "Branches", that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
"Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is NOT like "Ancestry_com" or the like.
.
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" like other "Web" Sites; and/or, 'standalone' personal programmes.
.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
"Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
So, in essence ...
.
We should be "Checking" to see if the "Deceased" individuals/persons in one's "Personal" 'Standalone' "Tree" in the likes of "Ancestry_com" ALREADY exist in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
Please DO NOT bring them over from "Ancestry_com" ...
.
Enter (ie. 'Create) the individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" one at a time - on a one by one basis - if they do not already exist.
.
Many of the individuals/persons most probably ALREADY exist in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
Use the "Find" facility/function/feature to Search "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", you may be surprised to find some (if not, many) of them ALREADY there.
.
Many well established and documented (eg. "Sourced") individuals/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" have been RUINED by the upload of the (undocumented and unsourced) "Pedigrees" from "Ancestry_com" and the like.
.
Many NEW Users/Patrons DO NOT even take the time to look to see if any one in their "Ancestry_com" (or, the like) 'Tree' ALREADY exists in "Family Tree", in some instances, negating the need to even upload those individuals/persons.
.
If an individual/person is ALREADY in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", there is NO need to up uploaded one's version of that individual/person from one's "Ancestry_com" (or, the like) Account.
.
Whereas, "Exchanging" details/information between "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" and other "Third Party" Programmes is another matter.
.
It can be done ... I do not do such ... so, I will leave that to those that know ...
.
The "Solutions Gallery" in "FamilySearch" is a good place to take a look ...
https://partners.familysearch.org/solutionsgallery/s/
.
I hope this helps.

Muchas gracias for such an awesome and complete answer! Now that you mentioned it I did know that the records in ancestry were single while the ones in FS are shared. (After all the systems conversions I've done I should have remembered that! Oldtimerz is hitting me hard!) I will follow your instructions and not mess up the data bases!
Thanks again, christine andersen
