Canadian Homestead Records - Saskatchewan

Hello,

I am trying to locate the digital images for a number of homestead records. I found a number I was looking for by using the partial file number from the Saskatchewan Archives and searching for the image within a series or volume in the homestead records on Fam Search.

For example, if the Sask Archive file was 1452412, I would pull up the Homestead Record images on Family Search and, using the Ctrl F function, search '1452' until that number sequence showed up at the start of Volume column. Then I would open that volume and locate the actual file to look for what I needed.

I have about a dozen or so files left, but they are not the standard 7 digit files I successfully found - they are 5 and 6 digit files that have not shown up in any homestead records from 1880-1920.

Files of note are (these are the file numbers from Sask Archives):

61707; 894536; 897767; 909367; 927796; 250259; 434464; 470597; 537194; 625917; 799848; and one anomaly, 4547620.

Can anyone give me some direction how to locate these files in Fam Search?

You'll note the name associated with each is John Evans - I am looking for a signature to compare to a book inscribed by a former member of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (Cst. John Evans) who served in Battleford from 1912-1914. I only have his signature/handwriting sample - no birthdate or other identifiers except his Reg. No: 5486. I am trying to identify him - Attestation Papers all negative.

I am forever in the debt of the individual(s) who can assist me!

Kind Regards,

Mike

The Catalog page for the homestead files 1904- (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1827526) describes some changes in what was microfilmed or digitized and when. The post-1904 files appear to be cataloged sequentially by file number, starting with number 940921; finding a particular file will take some browsing, since each file is a variable number of images, and not all of them mention the file number.

I was able to find the file for the first result in the Sask. Archives link that you gave: the signature of John Brown Evans (https://search.saskarchives.com/evans-john-brown-nw-22-31-13-w3) can be seen on image 513 of FS film number 5363981 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9MM-V93G-S?i=512).

There's another catalog page for homestead records 1870-1930 (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/85217), but it says those films are not online for some reason.

    Hi Julia,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it is the Image Groups that are not online in which my files fall. Perhaps they will be added to the roster at a later time. :-)

The catalog link you provided quickly identified in which Image Group my files could be found. I then tried to search using the Image Group Number, only to be shut out :-/

    Thanks again!

    Cheers,

    Mike
