Unable to merge

In going through changes, it looks as if at one time, someone had Jeremiah 1753 as the son of Jeremiah 1751. Someone else replaced the father of Jeremiah 1753. I disconnected him from that father today, as descendants of each are different haplogroups and do not share any DNA matches. Any suggestions as to how to rectify this?

I vaguely recall a similar inexplicably-disallowed merge that turned out to be due to a relationship to a profile that was marked "living". It was of course invisible to all of us "mere mortal" users; it took a moderator's attention to get it fixed. Of course, it'd take quite the series of errors to have such a problem with someone who died in 1811, but you never know.

Please see Alan's comment about possible causes https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/comment/510903#Comment_510903
To me, it seems like there is already an incorrect merge here, unless he was married to and having children with both Mary and Elizabeth at the same time. Additionally the location seems to bounce between Virginia and South Carolina. If it were me, I would clean up and verify the current relationships before doing any more merges.

@WillcoxME I heard back from someone who could look at this from the backend.
Apparently there are living people connected to these two persons, even though they were born in the 1750s. It's the relationships to those living people that would result in a parent being merged with a child (if I understand correctly, a living person named Mary is the wife of one of them and the daughter of the other one).
Please be aware that someone has made drastic changes to L6CN-9N8 in the last while, which could complicate things.
I will escalate and ask for those living people to be disconnected from JA and Jeremiah Able.

@Maile L Currently there is no one attached to L6CN-9N8. I went through the change history and everyone who has ever been attached to him was deceased. The only "Mary" attached was his wife. She was merged and is now "Mary Roberts", the wife 2Z8Q-HK5.
The children are a mess. I was attempting to start from the top with Joseph Abell the immigrant and work down. Jeremiah is the oldest son of his oldest son, Joseph, so as you can see, I didn't get very far. Our DNA Project presented last month and I am attempting to put the correct information here, and on our personal Ancestry Trees. Correct information on these lines is not currently available elsewhere.
In response to comments, Mary was the first wife; Elizabeth the second. Some children listed are Elizabeth's brought in from a first marriage. Jeremiah was born in VA and went to Ninety-Sixth District with his father. His younger brother did not arrive until later. The children of that brother who are incorrectly attached to Jeremiah were born in VA. There was no bouncing. Since this brother died before the 1800 census, most researchers have not located him past Washington County, VA and assumed children in SC were Jeremiah's.

Thanks for your explanation. That makes a lot of sense. If a living version of Mary is attached to both men, you and I will not be able to see or alter the relationship, it must be removed by the creator of that living person. Since we do not know who created that living version, I will ask to have the relationship removed. This should allow the merge to take place.

Well that went right over my head. This is why we don’t drive or use FS while fatigued. Sorry for the stupidity, and thank you for the help.

@WillcoxME The 2 records no longer exist the way they did and the living spouse issue was corrected.
