From what I can tell, it used to be in Pike county until 1920, when it became the seat of the newly-formed Lamar county, but for some reason, FS's Places database has it as Pike for both the pre- and post-1920 intervals: https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/?focusedId=3958691&searchTypeaheadInputText=Barnesville,%20Georgia&text=Barnesville,%20Georgia. You can suggest a correction using the "Improve This Place" button. (I just did so, mentioning the already-cited Wikipedia article, but if you know a better website to cite, please go ahead and send it up. Choose "parent place" for the first drop-down.)

I found some records that were originally in Barnsville, Lamar Georgia, (such as https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6FQR-C9G4) but I haven't found one with Barnsville in Pike county. Can you provide a link to the incorrect record?

Pike County is where Barnesville used to be until 1921. Then it became a part of the newly formed Lamar County, which was formed from parts of Pike and Monroe Counties. Records prior to 1921 would show Barnesville in Pike but I don't think the 1950 census should be showing Barnesville in Pike County.
I am familiar with Pike as my great grandfather and his parents were from there.
