I am indexing coroner's records, and I have a record for the death of "an unknown person". How do I index this? I could put first name of "unknown" and last as "person" but that seems wrong.

To get the best answer, you should include the batch code (the letters/numbers in brackets) with your question since the projects often have different instructions.

But, generally, we would mark the given name and surname blank using the Ctrl + B or Cmd + B command and then fill in any other information that is available.

Field help for the Connecticut coroner's project:

"If the given names were not recorded or were written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank. "

    Hope that helps.
