Find connections among friends who are NOT around me …

The friends around me tool is a nice idea but I live far away from a lot of my friends who would want to do this with me so we will not be able to do this. You should do a thing like social media where you can add connections permanently and then see common ancestors that way.

Try using relative finder which should accomplish what you describe. https://www.relativefinder.org/#/main

The Contacts list already lets you do this. It lets you gather a list of people and shows your relationship to each of them (governed, of course, by whether you and they have given permission to see relationships).

Your Contacts list is accessible from the drop-down shown when you click on your name in the upper right corner of any FamilySearch page. The Contacts list is also available in the FamilySearch Tree mobile app.

You can add people to your Contacts list from any place that a contributor is shown, and also from events such as Relatives at RootsTech.
