Add Brother or Sister
History books often tell us that x is the brother or sister of y but rarely tell us any other linage. To be able to add these in the tree, rather than just sticking them in "other" might help someone else down the line.

Not 100% sure what you mean, but if this is referring to connecting siblings with unknown parents the solution is quite straightforward. Create a parent with the same surname and attach all known siblings to "him". Or, it could be "her", if you suspect the siblings to be illegitimate.
As an example, you have a John Brown who has a known sister Elizabeth Brown. Create an "Unconnected Person" (by going to "Recents") and call him / her just "Brown" (last name). Then create / add profiles for John & Elizabeth and use "Add Child" to attach them to the (unknown) parent.
Not a perfect solution, but at least it is a way of creating a relationship (on Family Tree) between two (or more) known siblings. Further, it will connect further generations to a relationship with their ancestor's siblings (1st cousin, 2nd cousin once removed, etc., etc.).

To illustrate Paul's explanation - I know, from several other records that my 2nd GGF Thomas had a brother John and a sister Margaret. There are no surviving records from County Mayo with the name of their father. But, I have the family connected by a "Holleran" father for the 3 siblings:

FamilySearch's Family Tree -- like every other family tree program I've ever encountered -- only has two types of family relationships: spouse and parent/child. Therefore, to enter a sibling, you have to enter a parent that those siblings share. This is one of the few situations where creating a profile for an essentially-unknown person becomes necessary. Luckily, FS allows for it: you're only required to fill out one name field. If the known siblings share a surname, then one makes a guess that the shared parent was male and bore that same surname.
Yes, there's a chance that the surname came from their mother, not their father, but the probability is low, so it makes sense for the placeholder to be entered as male.
