As a user of the old Paf5, I find that I might have to purchase a new computer, but as I have all my tree on it(not online), will windows 11 accept the old Paf5?

None of my tree is online, due to the express wishes of my family.

Can you help?

Hi, Thanks for your reply, you`ve been extremely helpful as I didn`t know that a Paf5 user group even existed and I will have a look at that site.

    Regards

    Peter

    Caveat - I don't use PAF5 nor I have migrated yet to Windows 11.

That said - Windows "compatibility mode" will usually allow an older program to run on a newer OS. A quick Google search brought up a PAF5 user group discussion covering that very topic: https://groups.io/g/PAF-Users/topic/87303484?p=,,,20,0,0,0::,,,0,0,0,87303484

We certainly respect your families wishes about what you put or dont put on line.

BUT just for the record - - if you did use FamilySearch Family Tree - the only items that that would be shared with others would be info about DECEASED persons (not living persons) and any uploaded documents could be restricted just to your access.

BUT . . . chances are - -your deceased ancestors (most of them) are probably ALREADY in FamilySearch to begin with.

I just wonder if your family really understands what using FamilySearch really means or implies . . . . and what they perceive as the risk.

also Ancestral Quest is almost the same thing as PAF 5.0 and I believe can read the PAF database "as is"
