Too many Memories
The Memories feed on my home page is 'really annoying". There are numerous people who must be uploading every scrap of paper and picture they can find. That's great for their home page but every time I turn my home page on I am barraged by massive amounts of pictures and documents. Sure I can hide those memories or even remove the persons name from the page but no sooner have I done that when another massive amount of documents appear. How can this be turned off for people who are not interested to have their home screen hi-jacked?

I'd also like to have a option to not show memories at all. I do not like this kind of spamming on my own page either. And I also do not use it, so I don't see a reason why I should have it on my page.

I can understand that having a lot of photos and documents on the home page could be annoying, much like going to just about any newspaper site and having to scroll past a dozen ads to get to each story you want to read. But hi-jacking and spamming are rather harsh words to use for a page that you don't have control over in any way other than hiding or removing some of the items. Calling it "your" page is a bit of a stretch.
But besides that, describing what actual harm these memories are doing or how they interfere with your work flow or otherwise why they should be relegated to a pod that has the option to be completely closed, and if enough people support such an option, might give the designers a reason to put all the memories inside a collapsible pod like the Hints and the To-Do list.
First question would be what do you ever do on the home page that is not accessible in the top two menu bars besides going to your To-Do list? Why are you scrolling through all the memories if you don't want to look at them?
On my screen, everything I need is in that top inch. Abridged versions of Record Hints and Recent People can also be accessed in their side pods on the right to cut out one click but depending on screen size, they can generally be reached without scrolling.
So do explain how seeing the top half of one memory is causing a problem.

I kinda have the opposite problem: all of the pictures on my homepage have been there for years. ("Kinda have" because I don't actually consider it a problem.) The photograph of my great-grandfather that my cousin's child posted in 2018 is a great picture, though, as is the one my godmother posted of her mother, so I don't mind looking at them, and as Gordon points out, it's not like they interfere with my use of the homepage.

There is a way to reduce the feed - 3 dots upper right corner of each photo
- Hide Memory
- Remove...
- Report Abuse (use extreme care!)
Use #2 and it won't show up in your home page. It will still be elsewhere - in their own Profile page.

Well, use 2) can cost me hours of doing so. New memories are just popping up. So a option to hide all(!) memories at once is imho the only way.

I wanted to find out what the hubbub was for the home page, so I went to mine and looked. I need to point out that when I log in and land there the first thing I immediately do is click to go somewhere else. I never look at my home page. I looked at it, and I saw one image. I did note that there was a hefty scroll bar, which after a few scrolls down I immediately got bored and stopped.
So, do I understand that you deliberately take the time to scroll down and are complaining that there is so much to scroll through? Why do you bother with the home page? There is nothing useful there for me and it sounds like that is the case for you, too. If I could set a landing page, it would be my home position in a pedigree view.
As one who uploads every scrap of paper I can find and every (vintage) image I have, I can tell you there is much genealogy information there. The oldest scrap of paper I have dates from 1825 and is a multiplication table reference for an ancestor of mine who owned a store in the 1830s and 1840s. It also has a reference guide on how to read and write big numbers. It's a fascinating insight into common math needs of the day. I inherited his whole bulk transaction ledger and this was in it. What should I do, toss it? I've also digitized every page in the ledger and looked up the PIDs of the people he did business with buying or selling bulk goods or services. I'm adding the images to their memories too. If my stuff is populating to your home pages and you hate it, I don't know what to say.

Because I'm so proud of the oldest thing I own, here it is, link below. I know, I'm hijacking the thread. I am pretty sure it is my ancestor's handwriting because the unique "Th" is written the same way through out much of the ledger.
