only offer one ordinance printing at a time for ordinance cards.
Please set it up so all ordinance cards are printed with only 1 (or 2 with baptism and confirmation) available. So far, we have been allowed to print a card with all available ordinance boxes blank and ready for stamping from the temple. However, with the temple shredding cards as they are recorded, this means the later ordinances are more difficult to keep track of and make sure they get done.
For example- I look in family group shared reservations. Bob Jones needs his I, E and SP to be done. So, we print it, and my husband takes it to the temple. He does the initiatory and the card gets shredded. Life gets busy and time passes. During this time my son (part of the group) sees Bob Jones needs his E and SP done but the site says it has been printed. Because he doesn't want to duplicate ordinances, and he assumes since it is printed that his dad will be doing those ordinances, he does not print the E and SP again and goes in search of another name or runs out of time and just does a name from the temple system. Meanwhile my husband decides it is time to get back to the temple. He doesn't have the E and SP card anymore. He logs in and sees that Bob Jones has been printed, forgets it was he who printed it and assumes that work is being done by another member of the group and ultimately Bob Jones waits a long time to get his E and SP done.
If the cards always only print for 1 ordinance, then it would list that Bob Jones Initiatory was printed but not the E and SP allowing for easier tracking and coordination of what needs to be done. I realize this makes it difficult if you want to do the work for 1 person all the way through in 1 day. Also, The E can't be printed till the Int has been done, etc..
It seems to me if we are switching to keeping track of what needs to be done online vs hard copy (so we have the real-time data to go off and avoid duplication or unrealized expiration) and the names are always shredded then we need a clearer way to seeing what needs to be printed again.
Thank you :)

I have run into this with my own files and I printed far more than I could reasonably complete in the period of time. My solution--and it can be tedious, but it does eliminate duplications or missing ordinances--is to quickly check each persons ordinance status before printing. I do this directly from the printing page by click their name and pulling up their personal page. As I said, it can be tedious but it resolves the question since completed ordinances are shown on the person's page. Just my way of resolving.

@MaryHoffman First of all, no one should ever assume that the "printed" status for an ordinance is a reliable indicator that someone is doing the ordinance work. The only reliable indicator is who has the ordinance reserved. Of course, even if someone reserves an ordinance, there is no guarantee that they will do the work. But at least it is their exclusive right during the time they have the ordinance reserved to do the work. Once their reservation expires (or they explicitly unreserve it), the ordinance is available for someone else to reserve. It makes no difference whether the ordinance has ever been printed. If no one has a current reservation, you can reserve it (assuming that by policy you are eligible to reserve it). If you have reserved it (and it has not expired), you can print the card and do the work.
Also, as you noted, if it were made impossible to print more than one ordinance, "I realize this makes it difficult if you want to do the work for 1 person all the way through in 1 day." That is still an important option that must be available.
I know this requires a change in thinking from how things used to be done, but it's really quite simple:
- Print the temple card(s) just before you go to the temple.
- Before you print a temple card, make sure you have have a current reservation for that ordinance.
- Don't assume that the "printed" status tells you anything definitive about the availability of the ordinance.

It is already an option to print only the ordinance that you want to perform. Pay attention to the different steps of printing the temple card and, at a particular step, you can unclick the ordinances you don't want printed.

It could be very useful to change the default behavior of the printing process. Currently all boxes are checked and you have to uncheck any you don't want printed. Since the cards are not returned, the behavior to be encouraged of just printing the next ordinance should be the default. This default could be that when the pop up to choose which ordinances to print appears, all the boxes would be un-checked but with an additional box labeled "Next to perform only" that is checked.
This would allow a mixture of cards to be printed and still allow one to customize what ordinances to print. Something like this mock-up:

I like the idea to make the default to print only one ordinance, with the option to print the other ordinances if desired. It makes sense to have the default to be the minimum instead of the maximum.
